Position Overview & Specifications
ev.energy is growing! We’ve come a long way in the last year - growing to a team of around 100 people, working remotely across Europe and North America with the aim of reducing carbon emissions caused by EV charging. We’ve got even more ambitious growth plans for the coming year, and to achieve these plans we need to bring on board a talented Financial Controller, reporting into our Financial Director.
You'll play a crucial role in helping the company operate efficiently and provide the financial foundations the company can grow from, taking responsibility for the accounting and financial operations lifecycle as a whole; setting financial controls and practices, managing bookkeeping and accounting, and ensuring efficiency and compliance, as well as leading on audit processes.
About us
We set up in 2018 to make EV charging simpler, greener and cheaper for drivers, to encourage EV adoption and reduce carbon emissions. Core to our platform is a proprietary smart-charging algorithm, dynamically aligning charging with intermittent low-carbon electricity, reducing carbon emissions from grid electricity by as much as 70%.
We’ve so far secured over 13m USD in funding and achieved the title of ‘Best Energy Startup in the World’ when we won the Free Electrons programme. We’ve brought together a high performing team bringing expertise from their previous roles at National Grid, Bulb, BCG, Meta, Amazon, BBOX and more, and pride ourselves on the inclusive and collaborative culture we’ve created.
We’re looking for more talented and passionate folk to join our mission to make EV charging greener, as we push to have over a million drivers using our product globally.
What will you be doing?

- Maintaining the integrity of our accounting data and ensure that our accounting systems meet our evolving business needs
- Leading our financial audit processes and ensuring we comply with our statutory financial filings and obligations
- Ensuring that our balance sheet across the Group structure is accurate and all balances are fully known with supporting schedules
- Designing and implementing financial policies, processes and controls for our
business operations - Owning payroll, accounts payable and our employee expenses process
What are we looking for?
- Chartered Accountancy qualification (ACA/ACCA/CIMA) or equivalent
- Proven experience in financial control or audit, preferably in a SaaS or technology
platform company and/or in a scale-up business - Understanding of accounting principles and tax regulations in the UK and US
- Hands on experience of using and improving an accounting system
- Experience of designing financial policies, processes and controls and successfully
implementing them - Experience of managing audit processes, ideally having led them end-to-end
- Excellent drive and attention to detail to continuously improve processes
- Ability to manage multiple internal and external stakeholders towards common goals and tasks
- Appreciation for the mission; you’ll care about the overall aim of reducing carbon emissions globally and want to be part of this
