Position Overview & Specifications

About the role
  • Management Grade A

  • This is a full-time role, however flexibility in this will be considered

  • The base location for this role is flexible, between our Birmingham/Amesbury/Enfield sites

Reporting to the Regional Technical Manager you will be the most senior technical person on site, with direct responsibility for food safety and quality standards across 3 distribution centres. You will be part of a small but effective QA team that is heavily involved with day-to-day factory floor operations for low risk logistics operations, ensuring high standards are maintained and current site systems are challenged and developed. You will be expected to build strong relationships across the 3 sites and work closely with technical teams within the region. The role will involve frequent travel to thee 3 standalone Distribution Centres (Amesbury DC, Birmingham DC and Enfield DC) and occasional travel to other sites; therefore, flexibility and a full clean driving licence is essential.

What you'll do

Working closely with the site teams, the role is responsible for:

  • Directing a team of Quality Assurance Technicians

  • Working with logistics, engineering, and hygiene teams to ensure the highest standards of food safety, quality and legality are maintained across the 3 Distribution Centres

  • Steering the annual site BRCGS audit across the 3 Distribution Centres and ensuring sites work to the requirements of the BRCGS Food standard always

  • Leading the HACCP team, ensuring full implementation of the HACCP plan and prerequisites

  • Managing the sites allergen management and risk assessment process

  • Facilitating product recalls and withdrawals

  • Managing the sites document control systems

  • Providing management reports on levels of performance for KPI data

  • Assisting with the completion of internal audits and inspections

  • Managing non-conformances and corrective / preventative actions

About you

We are looking for individuals who are driven, and can demonstrate:

  • A Degree level education in a Food Science based subject

  • HACCP Level 3 and Food Safety Level 4 qualifications

  • Practical knowledge of the BRCGS Food Standard and Quality Management Systems

  • Internal audit qualification and experience auditing against the BRCGS food standard

  • Proven experience of leadership, decision making and team management

  • A result focussed approach with excellent communication skills and the ability to influence others
