Position Overview & Specifications

MVA is an award-winning online independent school for students aged 11 - 18. Founded in December 2020, we have become the fastest-growing independent school in the UK and have won multiple awards including the National Business Award for Best Business in the UK with under 50 Staff in 2022.

An exciting opportunity is available for experienced and suitably qualified people to join us as Mentors, in an employed part-time or potentially full-time capacity. Our vision is to provide an effective and consistent level of nurture and personalised one-to-one support to students across the school. This is a role where your hard work will make a significant difference to young people learning online. You will work closely with students, parents and teachers to remove barriers to learning and will support Heads of Year and Senior Leaders to inform and implement appropriate intervention to ensure our students are supported in developing essential character strengths that will support lifelong health and wellbeing.

At MVA our mentors are allies to individual students on their educational journey. Mentors meet with each mentee individually once per week for 30 minutes and oversee their learning across all subjects, involvement in school life, pastoral well-being, and future plans. Mentors share feedback to parents fortnightly, liaise with subject teachers, Heads of Year, SENDCo, DSL/DDSL, Deputy Heads and Headteacher about any issues or identified needs and are contactable by pupils via their MVA email address.

We invite applications from candidates with proven experience in supporting a wide range of young people to achieve success, including students with diverse needs including SEND and Mental Health.

Applications for this role must be submitted through TES and we ask candidates to indicate details of their availability (full/part-time) from September 2023 in their personal statement.

We reserve the right to close this vacancy early if we receive sufficient applications for the role. Therefore, if you are interested, please submit your application as early as possible.

MVA is an affordable, accessible online independent school that delivers world-class education with a true sense of community. It is the perfect school for modern times - combining smart technology and engaging online resources with one-to-one support, active group learning and exciting multi-disciplinary projects.

We offer students the flexibility to learn from the comfort of their home, and anywhere in the world, while ensuring they develop the social skills required to live fulfilling lives and succeed in the workplaces of the future. We champion self-sufficiency, collaboration, problem-solving, creative and critical thinking, leadership, and mindfulness.

Our motto - Together We Thrive - is translated into the day-to-day experience of students & staff at the school through our Ways of Being, devised by students for the whole community. We endeavour always to be:

  • Ambitious
  • Aware
  • Considerate
  • Kind
  • Mindful
  • Reflective
  • Responsible

MVA is committed to safeguarding and promoting the welfare of children and young people and expects all staff and volunteers to share this commitment. Applicants will be required to undergo child protection screening appropriate to the post, including checks with past employers and the Disclosure and Barring Service (DBS).

MVA values the diversity of our workforce and welcomes applications from all sectors of the community.
