Position Overview & Specifications

Are you organised with meticulous attention to detail? Are you passionate about commercial fiction?

We are looking for a dedicated Editorial Assistant to join the fiction team on a 12-month Fixed Term Contract.

About Bantam

Bantam is the commercial imprint of Transworld and publisher of some of the UK’s bestselling and most-loved authors. From Sophie Kinsella, Ruth Jones, Jilly Cooper, Lee Child, Dan Brown, Trisha Ashley and Val Wood, to recent publications such as Stepping Up by Sarah Turner, The People on Platform 5 by Clare Pooley, Summer at the Ice Cream Café by Jo Thomas, Love in the Time of Serial Killers by Alicia Thompson and The Things We Leave Unfinished by Rebecca Yarros, Bantam has an unparalleled reputation for launching blockbuster debuts and building the biggest fiction brands in the market. We are a dynamic and collaborative team looking for someone to join us at an exciting time in our evolution.

The opportunity

Reporting to the Editorial Director and supporting them, plus two other members of the team, you will be responsible for a wide range of administrative and editorial tasks, including checking proofs and jackets, writing copy, checking eBook ads, managing invoices, coding and payments, maintaining departmental systems, logging submissions, managing prize submissions and dealing with author and agent correspondence. You will also be tasked with arranging meetings, meeting preparation and research, and taking minutes, and you will have responsibility for updating metadata and copy across relevant titles. There will also be the opportunity to read submissions and manuscripts alongside the editors and write reader reports.

You will be responsible for liaising with the team and driving the Bantam Twitter and Instagram feeds. Excitingly, you will also contribute to team discussions about submissions, strategy and the marketplace.

What you’ll bring

This role will be best suited to someone who:

  • Is highly organised and forward thinking
  • Can prioritise a demanding workload
  • Possesses excellent communication skills and can maintain strong working relationships with authors, agents and colleagues alike
  • Has a keen eye for detail

If you thrive in an energetic and fast-paced environment and you share a passion for commercial fiction and for Bantam authors and titles, then this is a superb opportunity to gain an insight into the editorial process as a whole, and to experience working with one of the most successful publishers in the country.

How to apply

This is a 12-month fixed-term contract. If you think that this opportunity is for you, please apply with a CV and Covering Letter by 23:59 on Thursday 8th June. As part of your Covering Letter, please tell us about a recently published commercial fiction book you’ve enjoyed reading, and why you liked it (maximum 200 words).

We expect interviews to start taking place from mid-June.

For this role, there are meetings and activities that you will need to attend in person at our offices in Embassy Gardens across the week. We are open to discussing the exact balance of office to remote working through the recruitment process.
