Professional Construction Worker (Mid-Career/Experienced)

We are seeking a professional construction worker (job title: Facilities Technologist) for our Minor Modifications Team. In this role you will demonstrate skills and experience in performing construction activities involving carpentry, painting, electrical, plumbing, and/or structural. You will use your reasoning abilities, self-determination/drive, and strong customer service skills to perform your duties.

On any given day, you will be called on to:

• Perform a variety of construction-related functions
• Read engineering drawings, blueprints, standards, and specifications in order to install facility systems and components to specifications and code
• Demolish, install, test, and repair facility structures, systems, and components
• Understand and follow Universal Building Codes during construction
• Use and maintain tools of the trade to perform work
• Use of mathematical skills to measure, mark, cut, and lay out material and erect or assemble systems
• Perform general facility systems or equipment maintenance or repairs as needed
• Collaborate and works as a team with other workers to produce finished construction projects timely and efficiently
• Follow all safety guidelines and use of personal protective equipment
• Support operational capabilities within facilities, including construction safety, permitting, document control, space management, energy monitoring, and information technology applications
• Understand and adhere to all applicable Sandia National Laboratories and industry regulatory and safety guidelines
• Ensure all results, materials, processes, and final products meet quality specifications and are completed according to established requirements

• High school diploma plus five or more years of directly related experience in one or more skilled construction trades, or equivalent combination of education and experience
• Ability to obtain and maintain a DOE Q-Level Security clearance
• Selected applicants will be required to take a Job Placement Assessment before beginning the job to ensure that they can perform the essential physical requirements, with or without accommodations
• Selected applicants must have a valid driver's license when offered employment, and maintain a valid driver’s license during employment

• Ability to read blueprints and engineering drawings when needed
• Ability to understand and implement engineering standards and specifications
• Ability or trained to use the tools of the trade for the skilled position
• Understand work hazards, safety practices, operating configurations, and policies and procedures
• Strong communication skills and ability to interact with all levels of staff and management

The Minor Modifications Team (MMT)handles minor modifications in-house construction including electrical, mechanical, plumbing, and structural as needed.
