In this high-profile role as Assistant Secretary, you’ll be a part of the UK Corporate Governance Office and will provide high quality governance support to subsidiary boards and management committees.

You’ll be implementing senior management directives in regulatory and statutory compliance and ensuring governance best practice throughout the Santander UK group. You’ll play a critical role in maintaining high standards, systems and procedures which will be constantly reviewed and improved upon.

The difference you’ll make.

  • Running of a major subsidiary board (including board committees) or management committee, including all preparation, taking minutes of meetings, and distributing actions.
  • Taking responsibility for your own portfolio of subsidiary legal entities.
  • Contributing to the annual report and financial statements programme.
  • Providing specialist advice on statutory compliance and governance best practice, internal governance requirements and new business and legislative developments/projects.
  • Leading Santander UK’s legal entity optimisation programme on behalf of the Corporate Governance Office.
  • Being responsible for ad hoc governance-related project work.

What you’ll bring.

  • To be an Associate or Fellow of the CGI.
  • Strong technical Company Act and corporate transaction knowledge and experience.

It would also be nice for you to have.

  • Experience of working in a regulated environment, ideally financial services.
  • Practical knowledge of risk management principles and experience maintaining corporate secretarial related risk control self-assessments and business continuity plans.
  • Experience supporting pensions related governance bodies.
  • Ability to mentor and develop more junior team members.

What else you need to know.

  • The role is based in Milton Keynes; however, we have a flexible approach to working and you’ll have flexibility to work from home or other Santander Head Office locations including London.
