Position Overview & Specifications

Job Purpose To lead, manage and coordinate the School of Education’s external and internal communications, major events and conferences, and other related external and internal engagement activities. Main Duties and Responsibilities 1. Lead the development and delivery of School communications and engagement strategies, plans, policies and plans. 2. Manage and support the School’s external communications activities with prospective students, academics, policy-makers, practitioners, and the public, including preparing media and publicity materials. 3. Manage and support the School’s internal communications activities with students and staff, including the production of newsletters and other related content. 4. Liaise with the University’s Communications & Public Affairs Office to develop and maintain the School’s external and internal profile and reputation. 5. Liaise with the Deputy PGT Programmes Manager to work with the University’s Development & Alumni Office specifically around the School’s engagement and communication with Alumni. 6. Develop, manage and maintain the School’s web presence, serving as the School’s principal web editor. 7. Manage and maintain the School’s social media presence, ensuring social media presence is at the forefront of social media developments and trends. 8. Support and develop the School’s network of active web editors. 9. Manage the planning and delivery of major School conferences, seminars and other similar events. 10. Advise and support academic staff within the School to promote and disseminate their research and scholarship to a variety of academic and non-academic audiences and stakeholders. 11. Supervise interns assigned to support the Schools’ communications and engagement activities. 12. To contribute to the enhancement of the University’s international profile in line with the University’s Strategic Plan - Inspiring People – Changing the World. http://www.gla.ac.uk/about/strategy/people/ Knowledge, Qualifications, Skills and Experience Knowledge and Qualifications Essential: A1 HND, VQ 3/4, Higher or equivalent, preferably in the social sciences or arts.
A2 Awareness of different media agendas and audiences. Desirable: B1 Educated to degree level, preferably in the social sciences or arts
B2 Understanding of the Higher Education sector. Skills Essential: C1 Excellent communication skills, both written and verbal.
C2 Excellent interpersonal skills. C3 Excellent IT skills, covering the full suite of Microsoft Office products and web editing/CMS usage (T4/WordPress/Drupal).
C4 Excellent presentation skills. C5 Excellent planning and project management skills.
C6 Excellent initiative and motivation skills Desirable: D1 Desktop publishing and design skills, including Adobe InDesign.
D2 Advanced web editing and development skills, including Adobe Dreamweaver. D3 SharePoint development and management skills.
D4 Proven ability to supervise other staff. Experience Essential: E1 Typically 4 years’ experience in a relevant role with qualifications or evidence of progression and development gained through 5-6 years in a relevant role.
E2 Experience of supporting the raising and manage of the profile and reputation of an organisation or similar. E3 Experience of developing and managing websites.
E4 Experience of developing and managing corporate social media profiles. E5 Experience of planning and managing events. Desirable:
F1 A track record of working with the media directly. F2 Experience of interacting with policy-makers and practitioners to influence and inform opinion.
F3 A track record of promoting the activities and interests of a Higher Education Institution (s). F4 Experience of managing the successful delivery of large academic conferences and other similar events. Terms and Conditions Salary will be Grade 6, £30,502 - £34,308 per annum. This post is full time (35 hours per week) and open ended.
