Position Overview & Specifications

Whistle Punks – Oxford Circus, London

Hey friendo! We’re Whistle Punks and we’re all about people.

Do our 5-star reviews rave about the quality of our wood or how lovely our axes are? Nope. It’s all about our team, our people, our Punks. They make the experience. They create the magic. Fancy joining them?

We brought urban axe throwing to the UK back in 2016 and, ever since our people and our business has been growing and developing, as we play hard to take front and centre in the cutting-edge space that is competitive socialising.

In that time our guests have thrown over 10 million axes. All those throws add up to an axe travelling all the way around the world, and then some!

We have venues in Bristol, Leeds, and Manchester, and in October 2022, relocated our London venue to the hustle and bustle of Oxford Circus, and wow, are we busy. With more venues in the pipeline, our commitment to achieving BCorp accreditation and our passion for customer and employee experience in equal measure, there is no better time to join in with the Punk way.

We’ve grown from 5 to a team of almost 100. We’re bigger, older and wiser, but some things haven’t changed. We’ve always paid the Real Living Wage. We’re always looking to innovate and find ways to do things better and we are always committed to developing and elevating our people, our purpose, and our place of work.

Our mission is to provide an unforgettable experience to anyone setting foot in our venues, this applies to our visitors and our punks. Our success is a direct result of the fantastic team already in place.

We’re about treating people well and doing business for good. Sound like something you’re into?
We’d love to hear from you.

SO what is a Whistle Punk? Well…..

  • No axe throwing experience required. Just bring the attitude and personality – we can train you to do the rest.
  • Guest experience. Bring your enthusiasm to create an atmosphere where all guests have a great time, and no-one’s left behind.
  • Timekeeping. Run a tight event that keeps to the schedule.
  • Safety. Be a champion of safety by keeping guests in check and ensuring the venue is always well maintained.
  • Mix it up. Typical six-hour shift involves running two 70-minute axe throwing sessions, mixed in with stints on the bar, check-in, drink service and popping pizzas in the oven making you an all throwing all dancing punk!.

Why Whistle Punks is for you:

From day one:

  • Days We are open 7 days a week, employees will need to be able to work both weekends and have some availability during the week.
  • Hours We are looking for people who can commit to a minimum of 12 hours a week (2 shifts) , but for those wanting more then we have 30 hours up for grabs too. Our shifts are no less than 6 hours, no stupidly short shifts and absolutely no split shifts.
  • Pay. Above Real Living Wage for all employees. Choose when you get paid – By partnering with Orka pay you can take up to 50% of your monthly earnings as you earn them. No more waiting for pay day.
  • Development. Earn increased pay through our Punk Pathways development programme – open to all.
  • Health. Access to Health Assured – mental, physical and financial wellbeing support.
  • Refreshments. Drinks and snacks provided on shift.
  • Social. Subsidised team socials via each venue’s Punk Fund.
  • Free axe throwing. Play for free – you can even bring your family too!
  • Bring your whole self. We want you to show off who you are, not hide it. Our dress code is just a Whistle Punks t-shirt – the rest is up to you.
  • Business for good. Who wants to work for a company that only cares about profit? Not us.
